John Sumoski

John Sumoski currently coaches women's soccer at Wilkes University. His 2005 team garnered it's first Freedom Conference Championship in the school's 19 year history. With that championship, the Lady Colonels received an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. In his 4 year tenure at Wilkes, Sumoski has a record of 45-29-5 and has been named Freedom Conference Coach of the Year two times. Prior to Wilkes University, Sumoski spent two years at Central Michigan University as an assistant coach, 2 years as the head coach at Carlow College in Pittsburgh, and 2 years as an assistant coach at Carnegie Mellon University.

John's most distinguished club experience is with Penns Forest F.C. in Pittsburgh where he spent 7 years developing premier level players. His '79 girls team won several tournaments including 3 state championships which qualified them for the Snickers Regional Championships. His '83 boys team was the first team in Pennsylvania West to win the state championship from U12 through U19. Over 95% of his players from both of these teams played collegiate soccer at schools like Lehigh, Gannon, Lafayette, Allegheny, California University of PA, Seton Hill, Duquesne, St. Francis of PA, and West Virginia.

He has an 'A' License and National Youth License through the USSF, and an Advanced National Diploma and Goalkeeper Diploma through the NSCAA. John is an EPYSA Olympic Development Program Staff Coach currently working with the U16 girls. Sumoski played collegiately at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown where he was a regional All-American. He holds the school's season (18) and career (37) scoring records.
